State Fair 2011

This was actually back in August, but I figured I'd get caught up on my blogging while Aiden is sleeping.

The Alaska State Fair is synonymous with rain and clouds. And surprisingly, it was rainy and cloudy when we went! But we still had a good time. Mainly people watching and eating fair food. :)

They had a "Down Under" exhibit this year. The little kangaroos were adorable!

This guy kept on making weird noises and walking up and down the fence way. I don't think he liked being confined.

Who knew that pelicans were this big?!?! I was amazed.

I entered an arrangement into the Wedding Bouquet category and won 1st place! I was super nervous that I wasn't going to get anything!

Porch "Garden"

Having a real garden is definitely one of the things I look forward to the most when we have a house. I just love all the colors and variety of plants! But for now I will have to be content with my "garden" on the porch. :) Somehow, over the past few years, I have accumulated several pots/planters, so I decided that this year I would put all of them to use! And I am loving it so far!

First Planter: Marigolds

Colors: French Vanilla & Inca Orange

I found this cute wood planter at Michael's for just a few dollars. I love the old fashion, worn look of it.

Second Planter: Lobelia, Mimulus & Lotus (berthelotii scarlet)

Colors: Riviera Sky Blue, Magic Blotched Mix & Parrot's Beak (orange)

I can't wait for the lotus to start blooming! They (the blooms) look so cool and funky!

Third Pot: Dusty Miller & Salvia

Colors: Vista Purple

I LOVE dusty miller and the salvia is a beautiful plant and color, so I thought the two would look great together! What do you think?

So here's my "garden". I have the whole corner dedicated to it. :) Eli was nice enough to move his grill over so I had more room to enjoy them!

I'm excited to see what wildflowers I get. My mom gave me a cute maternity shirt and the tag was made out of wildflower seed paper so that it can be planted. Great idea, huh?

Strawberries!!!! I attempted to grow some last year and didn't have much success, but I am hopeful for this year! Just planted them yesterday, so probably won't see any berries for a little bit.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Life has been so busy lately! I'm looking at my blog and realizing I haven't posted in a LONG time! Sorry everyone! Here's my post to bring you all up to date!

First off, the BIG news. We're pregnant! :) Haha, yup, it's true. It still feels unreal to me at times. I'm about 9 weeks (according to an online due date calculator) and will be going in for my first appointment a week from today! So excited! Can't wait to hear our little one's heartbeat. :)

We've been kinda keeping a low profile concerning our pregnancy on facebook and my blog, just because I wanted to wait a few weeks to make sure it's real and that I wouldn't have an early miscarriage, but so far, so good! And I wanted to tell most people in person, rather than over the web. Don't worry, we'll make it "facebook official" soon!

One of the reasons I have been so busy lately: Valentine's Day! The dreaded holiday for florist. This year went pretty smoothly, Monday was hectic (of course) but none of us pulled late nighters and we had relatively few mishaps! That has kept me busy for pretty much the past two weeks.

Eli bought me a beautiful bouquet of green roses and stargazers! I love it!

Wedding Flowers

I had the pleasure of doing the flowers for my brother-in-law's wedding last weekend, July 24th. Unfortunately I only got pictures of the bride's bouquet and throw bouquet, but believe me, everything else was pretty too! For the bridesmaid's bouquets we did orange and yellow dahlias with plumosa, variegated pittosporum and some white little flowers that we get from a local grower (I can't remember what they're called). And then the boutonnieres were orange roses with plumosa (the groom's was a yellow orchid to match the bride) and the corsages were a mixture of daisies, carnations and roses.

The Bride's Bouquet: white asiatic lilies, orange roses, white hydrangea, and yellow cymbidium orchids with some plumosa.

I love the way it turned out! The ribbon we used to wrap it was like burlap, complimented it nicely.

Throw Bouquet: yellow-y/orange dahlias, orange spray roses, white hydrangea, solidaster, with some plumosa.
